Working Memory Ted Talk

Ted Talk: Peter Doolittle: How your "working memory" makes sense of the world

"Life comes at us very quickly, and what we need to do is take that amorphous flow of experience and somehow extract meaning from it." In this funny, enlightening talk, educational psychologist Peter Doolittle details the importance — and limitations — of your "working memory," that part of the brain that allows us to make sense of what's happening right now.
pinThis talk was presented at an official TED conference, and was featured by our editors on the home page.

Ted Talk - What makes a Great Leader

What Makes a Great Leader

“People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.” This is the mantra of leadership expert Simon Sinek in one of the most popular TED Talks of all time (Watch: Simon Sinek: How great leaders inspire action). In his talk from TEDxPugetSound, Sinek looks at Apple, Martin Luther King Jr. and the Wright brothers — and examines why they were so successful at getting people to follow them. Who were the thinkers that inspired Sinek on his own path to leadership? Below, find five books (and two documentaries) that made a difference in his life. (Taken from website page linked above)

First Week of School Ideas

First week ideas for the classroom

Books to Read:

  1. Best Part of Me

I have done a similar activity with grades 5 and 6 students and they created poems to go with their picture. I think this time I will give sentence starters for students to choose from. I will be able to get diagnostic data on writing and spelling abilities and it will look great on the bulletin board for when the parents come to meet the teacher!

2. Stand Tall Mary Lou Melon

I like the idea of using this book to develop characteristics as well as for students to talk about what is special about them.

3. Jermiah Learns to Read

4. The Girl who Hated Books

I would like to read these books before I introduce the home reading program
